The Chicken Coop House
This modern residence draws inspiration from the simplicity and efficiency of traditional agricultural buildings—particularly the rural chicken house. Interpreting this familiar form through a contemporary lens, the home uses clean lines, a linear plan, and a single-sloped roof to create a structure that feels both grounded and modern.
The 3,000-square-foot home is organized on a single level, allowing spaces to flow naturally from one to the next while maintaining strong visual connections to the surrounding landscape. Large windows introduce natural light throughout the day and frame views of the property, reinforcing the relationship between the house and its setting.
Durability and long-term performance were key considerations in the design. The exterior envelope uses insulated masonry walls that provide both structural strength and excellent thermal performance, helping the home maintain comfort while minimizing maintenance over time.
Designed as a gathering place for the owner and his three children and their families, the home balances openness with intimacy—creating spaces that support both everyday living and shared moments together.
The result is a residence that blends agricultural inspiration with modern performance, creating a home that is both practical and enduring.
